Girls finish off last years unbeaten league winners

The Under 15's travelled to last year's league winners Carshalton in their first league game of the season. With Carshalton unbeaten for the last 2 seasons Denham knew they had to be at their best . Both teams started slowly with neither making much of an impact as a result goalie Gracie Perkis and the Carshalton Goalie had very little to do. It was Carshalton who eventually found the back of the net when their player was allowed to travel the length of the pitch and slot home their first goal 1-0. This seemed to wake up the Denham Girls and they started to play football passing the ball around. Midfielders Katie Akerman Katie Riddington , Julia Thurauf ,Yasmin Garcia and Charlotte Parrett put balls through to Kayleigh Currivan and Jessica Stickley and within 5 minutes the girls had 5 attempts on goal. The second half started with changes made to the side, goalie Gracie Perkis suffering with an injury was replaced by Jess. Reanna Isaacs came into the midfield, Charlotte and Maddie Vilday took over upfront leaving Kayleigh to fill the centre of the midfield with Katie A . Denham started to push forward from the start and they were rewarded 5 minutes in when Katie Akerman intercepted the Carshaltons goal kick and her great strike from 25 yards found the back of the net 1-1. The girls continued to dominate in all areas, the defence consisting of Chloe Smith Gina Lee and Annie Walsh were rock solid at the back . Kodi Spencer and Alketa Rrgami also worked hard running up and down the wing . 20 minutes in Katie A then turned provider when she put through a ball to Yasmin who chipped the ball over the goalies head to get her first goal on her league debut 2-1 Denham. With 20 minutes left on the clock the girls played with grit and determination , and stand in keeper Jess made a crucial save on 79 minutes to ensure Carshalton didn't equalise. The girls thoroughly deserved their win with every girl giving 100%. Player of the match went to Annie Walsh who was also on her debut, there was also debuts for Katie Riddington and Alketa Rragami. .
