Girls too strong for GPR

The Under 15's travelled to first division GPR Sapphires today in the 1st Round of the Surrey League Cup. Due to recent form of both teams the girls knew they were expected to come out of the blocks flying . Within the first 4 minutes the girls had 3 shots on target from Katie A and Yasmin but It was a through ball from Charlotte on 5 minutes that found Kayleigh who calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net 1-0 Denham.

The Denham Wingers Yas and Katie R showed great pace again this week and put some great crosses into the box and within a minute of the re-start the GPR's goalie was tested but once again saved three more shots from Katie A, Charlotte and Jessica. However she could not keep out Maddie's shot who made it 2-0.

The GPR girls showed great spirit and battled on testing the defence of Chloe , Gina and Annie and 2 minutes later had an attempt on goal but the shot was blocked by the girls.

On 18 minutes the first of many changes in positions began for Denham with Charlotte, Chloe and Katie R making way for Alketa, Kodi and Reanna , the girls got to work straight away with Reanna playing well in defence intercepting balls alongside Gina and Annie. On 19 minutes Jess made it 3-0 when she received a ball from Katie A. More shots followed from the girls but it was Jess who doubled her tally when Katie A again provided her with the ball to make it 4-0.

26 minutes in, Jess and Maddie were replaced by Charlotte and Katie R and Chloe came on for Annie a few minutes later. Kodi and Alketa worked well in the middle winning challenges and never giving up. Two more attempts at goal was then followed by a goal on 31 minutes for Yas to make it 5-0 . GPR still tried to find a way through in the closing minutes of the first half but Reanna , Gina and Chloe were too strong leaving Gracie very little to do. Just on half time Yas sped down the wing but was fouled just outside the box . Kayleigh stepped up to take the free kick which narrowly went wide of the post.

The Second half saw more changes for Denham. Gina, Katie A and Kayleigh were replaced by Jess, Annie and Maddie. The girls carried on dominating the match and on 49 minutes Maddie set up Jess for her hat trick 6-0 Denham. 2 More attempts followed from Annie and Charlotte but they were shot wide and over the cross bar.

On 39 minutes in another change, Kayleigh went in goal in place of Gracie . More shots were saved, Jess and Alketa were replaced by Gina and Gracie (who took a turn upfront) ,and Katie A replaced Kodi . Within 5 minutes of Gracie being on she got herself on the score sheet when Maddie put through a ball to her to make Denhams tally 7 and a very happy Gracie ! The girls continued to play some great football showing off their skills when needed. 1 minute later Yas showed great skill once again on the ball and got her brace and the girls 8th goal.

The pressure continued from the girls and this time it was Charlotte on 57 minutes that found the back of net to make it 9-0. Jess then came on for Charlotte on the re-start. 11 minutes from time with more pressure mounting Katie A finally got her goal to make it 10-0.
With 10 minutes left on the clock and the rest of the team wanting to get on the score sheet changes were made on field and Gina and Annie went up front. Yas and Katie R came off for Kodi and Alketa. Gina and Annie worked well together and Annie had 3 attempts on goal in the dying minutes . As expected it was a very one sided match but credit must be given to the GPR girls who never gave up from start to the end of the match. Although all the girls played very well individually and as a team , they also adapted well to their various changing positions and Yas was deservedly voted player of the match. The girls face AFC Wimbledon in the league next week at the Den.
