Impressive team display see girls lift the cup !

Today Denham United made the Long journey to the Heart of Surrey to the home of Ryman League club Merstham Fc for the League cup final against Carshalton Athletic. With a huge and optimistic following of parents, grandparents Denham quite rightly started as warm favourites against their strong and resilient opponents. After a cagey first few exchanges Denham broke the deadlock on 12 minutes when our star striker Kayleigh Currivan pounced from close range using all her predatory instincts against a flat footed defence.
The game continued to be a very competitive and tight affair. The pivotal moment in the contest came a few minutes before the interval when Gracie May Perkis made the 'save of the century'
To deny their most gifted player flying through the air at full stretch to Palm away an absolutely glorious volley from 20 yards out!
In a game of much skill yet very few clear cut chances the outcome was sealed with a 'goal of a lifetime' courtesy of the magic right boot of Katie Akerman. She latched on to an untidy clearance and duly dispatched a first time Half volley which was 'Laced' from all of 35 yards which arrowed over a stunned goalie.
All the girls played some fantastic passing football showing how far they have all come as a team this season. Working from the back starting with the defence trio of Gina Lee, Annie Walsh and Kodi Spencer they controlled their line well making it difficult for the opposition to pass through to Gracie Perkis . Midfielders Katie Akerman, Charlotte Parrett Reanna Isaacs Julia Thurauf controlled the middle of the park , with the wingers Yasmin Garcia and Katie Riddington working hard up and down the line putting in some lovely crosses to Kayleigh Currivan and Jess stickley up front. Maddie Vilday also made things difficult for Carshalton when she took a turn up front. Alketa Rragami and Chloe Smith came off the bench and played their part in the team.

The final whistle was greeted by great scenes of happiness and joy by a crowd of several hundred jubilant supporters. it's was a privilege to be present here today and can comfortably say that this set of players and this fine club are going right to the top.
