Wimbledon snatch all 3 points

The Under 15's played host to AFC Wimbledon on Sunday looking to retain their unbeaten record. However Wimbledon who were also unbeaten had other ideas in this great 7 goal thriller.

The girls started brightly testing the Wimbledon goal keeper when a flick on from Jess in the first 2 minutes found Kayleigh whose shot narrowly went over the cross bar. Good possession was then seen from the girls when Kodi (playing in defence) passed the ball to Charlotte who laid the ball to Katie A. Katie travelled with the ball finding a clearway to pass the ball onto Kayleigh , whose shot this time just went wide of the post.
Wimbledon also had their turn of possession and found a way through the midfield however Maddie intercepted the ball before it could find its way to Gracie. Denham pressed again this time a lovely flick on from Katie R found Kayleigh but her shot again just went wide of the goal.
All this action in the first 4 minutes was an indication of how close the game was going to be.
Yas then received the ball from the midfield , she travelled down the wing beating the Wimbledon defence but was unlucky to have her shot saved.
On 5 minutes Annie picked up the ball from her Central Defence position and ran through the midfield by passing the Wimbledon players and put a lovely ball through , Kayleigh and the Wimbledon goalie both went for the ball but Kayleigh won the battle and scored the first of her two goals to make it 1-0 Denham.

The game continued with end to end football, both teams trying their luck at goal. Wimbledon earned a free kick when their striker was fouled by Gracie , however Gracie made sure she stayed focused and saved their shot on goal. 5 minutes later it was Denham's turn when a free kick was given for a handball. The free Kick from Kayleigh although on target was parried out by the goalie then cleared away from their defender. Wimbledon pressed again but Kodi was in great form and stopped the forward from getting past with a well timed tackle.
Chloe and Annie also worked hard in defence , Annie clearing the ball with her head when it was knocked over from the Wimbledon midfielder and Chloe running back to clear the ball when Wimbledon again pressed. Wimbledon's persistence paid off in the closing stages of the first half when they equalised 1-1. However from the re -start Annie put a long ball over to Katie A who headed the ball onto Kayleigh who slotted home her second goal of the match 2-1 Denham.
The second half got under way and within a minute Wimbledon equalized 2-2. Denham kept pressing there was good passing of the ball when Kodi knocked the ball through to Charlotte who in turn found a gap to pass it to Katie R who in turn laid it onto Jess , Jess took a shot at goal which the Wimbledon goalie saved.

Katie R and Alketa worked well along the wings crossing balls over to Kayleigh and Yas who was now taking a turn up front. Maddie worked hard in her holding midfield position helping out the defence when needed.

Play continued with both teams looking to take the lead. This eventually came to Denham when Kayleigh through on goal was brought down inside the Penalty Box . After discussions between Jess, Charlotte and Katie A , it was Katie who stepped up to take the penalty. She thumped the ball into the back of the net 3-2 Denham.

Wimbledon didn't give up and 7 minutes later levelled the score again 3-3.

With 20 minutes remaining a draw looked a fair result , Holly came on for Katie R . Wimbledon got a free kick which Gracie parried out for a goal kick.

In the last 10 minutes , the girls started to slow up and Wimbledon took advantage and snatched the winner when from a corner they were gifted a free header and the ball found its way into the back of the net. In a tough but very good game of football Kodi was voted player of the match for her hard work in defence. The girls face Portsmouth away in their next leaguegame on Sunday.
