Girls secure all three points away to Portsmouth

The Under 15's bounced back this week with a win against Portsmouth Ladies. The girls determined to make amends for last week's defeat started very strongly there was good link up play with Katie R , Charlotte and Maddie and Kodi and within 2 minutes a ball was put through to Kayleigh who had her first attempt at goal .Good passing from the back through the middle to the top saw the girls start to take control of the game early on and it wasn't long before they were 1-0 up when Charlotte put a ball through from the midfield to set up Kayleigh who calmly slotted home the first of her two goals. Both teams had attempts on goal a header on from Charlotte found Kayleigh who in turn passed to Alketa who crossed the ball over to Yas who took a good shot at goal which the goalie saved. Portsmouth tried to break through the Denham defence but Annie was on hand to clear the ball. A ball this time went down the wing to the Portsmouth midfielder but Chloe used her speed to chase back the ball and intercepted the ball for a throw in. Moments later Denham got the ball again this time Julia knocked the ball down to Kayleigh whose shot was just wide of the post. Although Denham dominated with more shots this time from Katie A and good team play from the girls it was Portsmouth who finally found a way through to make it 1-1 in the closing stages of the first half. Portsmouth were awarded a free kick in the last minute which Gracie had no trouble saving. A final attempt was made by Denham when Charlotte put a ball through to Yaz who travelled down the wing , crossed the ball to Julia but was unable to convert.

Second Half
Within 5 minutes of the second half the Portsmouth striker was brought down in the box by Chloe and awarded a penalty which was converted to make it 2-1 Portsmouth. On the kick off Denham kept possession passing through the middle and a ball from Katie Akerman found Julia Thurauf who levelled the score 2-2. Denham took control of the game , Maddie in midfield played a ball through to Yaz but the it was put out by the Portsmouth defence for a throw in.
It wasn't long before their hard work paid off when Chloe from the defence back line travelled with the ball to find Katie A who had her powerful shot parried by the goal keeper only to find the Feet of Kayleigh who tapped the ball into the back of the net 3-2 Denham.
The game continued with great play from the girls, the ball was knocked into the middle which saw Kodi battle with the Portsmouth midfielder and win the ball. Portsmouth attempted to level the score with a well taken corner which Gracie got on the end of and parried the ball to Jess who knocked it on to Katie A but the Portsmouth defence stopped the ball . Portsmouth again tried to find a way through our defence but it was Gina's turn this time who put in a strong tackle to prevent this happening. Jess playing on the wing did a clever "Joe Cole " and flicked the ball over to Kodi who was fouled. Kayleigh stepped up for the free kick and the ball just went over the cross bar.
As the game wore on the girls kept looking to increase their lead with more attempts at goal , this time Kayleigh found jess free who crossed the ball over into the box which the Portsmouth goalie got hold of and saved. Portsmouth tried to break through passing the midfield as far as Annie who chased the ball back and knocked it out for a throw in. Katie R also worked hard chasing the ball down on the wing she was also part of some good play when in the closing 5 minutes Julia received the ball from a Denham throw in travelled down the wing passed to Katie R who played the ball to Katie A she in turn passed it back to Gina who then found Charlotte who did a one two with Julia then passed to Kayleigh who ran with the ball only to be fouled inside the penalty box. The ref decided to give advantage as the denham girls picked up the ball in the box to take a shot but it was clear for all to see that a penalty should of been awarded. Although the score could of been increased the girls put in a good display of football with their passing of the ball . Player of the match went to Charlotte Parrett .
