League cup clash ends all square

Yesterday’s match between ourselves and Ashford was a close contest. Strong tackles. Desire to win the ball from both teams, a game full of opportunities and chances and a tense affair.
After a close first half with good patience when in possession, Denham broke through on goal scored and it was controversially given as offside.
Chances fell to both teams, with Denham also hitting the bar and having the ball cleared off their line from a free kick. Ashford had a few missed opportunities in front of goal too.
Second half arrived and with the visitors upping their game they was on top for a 20 minute spell. Denham found their rhythm and started to play again. However it wasn’t enough to keep out Jo Wilson from Ashford who took a touch in the box and tapped it into the back of the net on 75 mins. With 15 mins left and stoppage times this didn’t dampen the spirits, heads didn’t go down as we kept battling and after a flurry of free kicks and corners it looked like we were going to score. 5 minutes from time a Annie Hewitt corner went to the front post and after rising the highest Rachel Keightley got her head to it with a bullet header into the top corner.

Final score 1-1 and a great spectacle with every player putting everything in.
